An off road electric scooter is designed for rougher surfaces than a typical road-focused scooter. Depending on the model, features can include wider tyres, deeper tread, stronger suspension, increased ground clearance and a more rugged frame.

Some off road electric scooters are designed for gravel, compact dirt, grass and other uneven surfaces. Suitability depends on the tyres, suspension, ground clearance and overall construction of the individual scooter, so always check the model specification.

Wider pneumatic tyres with deeper tread are generally better suited to loose and uneven surfaces because they can provide more grip and cushioning. Tyre size and design vary between models, so consider the terrain you intend to ride on.

Dual motors can provide stronger acceleration, hill climbing and traction, which can be useful on challenging terrain. However, not every off road scooter needs dual motors. Tyres, suspension, braking and overall weight are also important.

Models with higher motor output and strong torque can be better suited to gradients, but hill-climbing ability also depends on rider weight, battery level, tyre grip and the steepness and surface of the hill.

Electric scooter rules vary between countries. Check local regulations and permitted riding locations before use.
